Johannes Skudlik
Born in 1957, after completing his classical studies, he graduated in organ, conducting and sacred music at the University of Munich under the leadership of Gerhard Weinberger and Franz Lehrndorfer. As a conductor, he received private cooperation from Eugen Jochum and Claudio Abbado.
Since 1979 he has been the organist of the Maria Himmelfahrt Cathedral in Landsberg/Lech (Bavaria), where he founded and conducts the “Landsberg Oratorio Choir,” a few other chamber choirs and the “Con-brio Chamber Orchestra” of Munich.
With the latter he has performed the most famous Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Bruckner and Puccini Masses, as well as the Mass in B Minor and St. Matthew Passion by Bach, Mozart’s Requiem, Verdi’s Requiem, a German Requiem by Brahms and oratorios by Handel, Haydn, Mendelssohn and Dvorak. On these occasions he conducted prestigious soloists such as Matthias Görne, Roberto Sacca, Harald Stamm, Marga Schiml, Monica Pick-Hieronimi, Julie Kaufmann, Peter Schreier, Hermann Prey, Aldo Baldin, Monica Frimmer and Peter Lika.
As a conductor, Skudlik performs in many concerts and symphonies by Mozart, Beethoven (9th Symphony), Bruckner ( 4th, 7th and 9th Symphony), and Mahler (2nd and 4th Symphony) with members of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, members of Berlin Philharmonic and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (London) in Germany, Spain , Italy, France, Greece and Portugal.
As an organist and harpsichordist, Johannes Skudlik held numerous concerts throughout Europe, Iceland, the USA and Japan (St. Petersburg: Philharmonia, Tokyo: Concert Hall; Boston: Harvard University; Hong Kong: Philharmonic Orchestra; Munich: Philharmonic Orchestra; New York: St. Bartholomew’s; Paris: St. Clotilde; St. Eustace, Zurich: Tonhalle, and also in the cathedrals of Westminster, Seville, Salamanca, Hamburg, Cologne, Lausanne, Warsaw; and for festivals in Zurich, Copenhagen, Milan, Verona, Palermo, Antwerp, San Sebastian, Valencia and Porto).
He has recorded 20 CDs of organ, harpsichord and chamber music (including “Requiem” by Verdi and “Elijah” by Mendelssohn with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra of Munich). As harpsichordist he recorded the Goldberg Variations and the “Well-Tempered Clavier” by Bach.
He has made numerous recordings for major European and American producers, including RIAS Berlin, WGBH in Boston, Bavarian TV and Broadcasting, RAI Uno Italy and Polish Television. Since 2005 Johannes Skudlik has been Artistic Director of the European Organ Festival: “Via Claudia Augusta”, with 50 concerts from Landsberg (Germany) to Venice and since 2006 has been Artistic Director of the Bayerischer Orgelsommer. Johannes Skudlik is the founder and director of the Euro Via Festival “Roma – Santiago”, which is performed in 10 European countries including the most famous places associated with the organ such as Notre Dame de Paris, Westminster Cathedral, San Marco in Venice and the Berlin Philharmonic. Johannes Skudlik directed, among other things, the concert for 9 organs and percussion: Jean Guillou, “La Revolte des orgues” at the Arena of Verona in August 2012.
