Chiara Bertoglio
Born in Turin in 1983, Chiara Bertoglio began playing piano at the age of three, and graduated with honours and an honourable mention from the Turin Conservatory aged sixteen. She obtained performance diplomas from the Academy of Saint Cecilia in Rome, the Swiss Virtuosité (thanks to a scholarship from “De Sono”) and a Master’s degree in Musicology at the University of Venice, with summa cum laude, followed by a PhD in Music Performance Practice at the University of Birmingham (UK). She studied under the guidance of M. Rezzo, I. Deckers, E. Henz, P. Badura Skoda, S. Perticaroli and K. Bogino, among others.
She debuted as a soloist in an orchestra aged nine, conducted by F. Letiner. Shortly after she collaborated with orchestras such as the Rome Symphony Orchestra, the European Union Chamber Orchestra, the Curtis Chamber Orchestra and others. In 2005 she debuted at Carnegie Hall in New York, conducted by Leon Fleisher. She has also performed in concert halls such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Royal Academy and the Royal College of London, the Wiener Saal of the Mozarteum of Salzburg, the Chopin Institute of Warsaw, la Sala dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia, il Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and for seasons such as the Turin Musical Union, MITO September Music, Polincontri Classica etc. She gave recitals and concerts in many European countries and in the USA, which are often broadcast by national and satellite radio and TV stations.
Her recordings of note include the Toccata for piano and orchestra by Respighi (Brilliant Classics, 2013), the “Mors&Vita” CD (Messiaen and Mussorgsky, for Velut Luna, 2012), the whole of Schubert’s Impromptus (Velut Luna, 2012) and the Mozart Concerts for the composer’s 250th anniversary, in conjunction with “Panorama” magazine.
In 2005 she published her first book, “Play on, dear friends” (Turin, Marco Valerio), followed by “Music, masks and travellers” (2008), “Logos and Music” (2009) and “For Sister Music” (2009), all published by Effatà, as well as “Instructive Editions and Piano Performance Practice”, (L.A.P. 2013). She has also published articles in leading musicology journals. She has taken part as a speaker in international conferences, and held seminars in different universities in Italy and abroad.
